For many years, Caterpillar has requested that incidents involving our products be reported to the company and has provided a form to make reporting easier. See the Reference Article.
This system has been very effective and we encourage continued participation in this reporting process. Information gathered through the use of the incident reports is always evaluated in terms of potential product improvement.
Whenever significant hardware on the machine is damaged during an incident, or especially if any parts or components are alleged to be the cause of the incident, Caterpillar would like the opportunity to examine those parts. Such parts need special handling so that they do not get lost in the routine warranty/returned parts process. If the opportunity to provide such hardware exists, service personnel are asked to contact the Manager Of Technical Support in Peoria at (309) 675-6965 for specific guidance and instructions on the parts involved. Mark the parts and/or the container with the following information:
-
- * Special Handling Required.
- * Parts involved in incident on (Model)(Serial Number or Product Identification Number).
- * Do not discard without first contacting Manager Of Technical Support at (309) 675-6965.
- * Special Handling Required.
Any parts returned to Caterpillar will receive special inspection and examination and appropriate action will be taken. Furthermore, those parts and components will be preserved in the event that a future lawsuit might develop. If such parts are lost, damaged or destroyed, the courts could hold Caterpillar and/or dealer personnel responsible for spoilage of evidence.
