    (1) EMS device

Product Link on Caterpillar machines with Electronic Monitoring Systems (EMS II) may have compatibility issues that result in EMS gauge reset during machine operation.

In order to improve compatibility with PL522 and PL321 with Electronic Monitoring System (EMS II) replace the EMS II with a later version of electronic monitoring system known as Electronic Monitoring System (EMS III).

Note: The following list shows some of the names used to refer to early versions of electronic monitoring systems: Caterpillar Monitoring Systems, Monitoring Systems, Caterpillar Electronic Monitoring Systems, and Electronic Monitoring Systems (EMS II).

The EMS III is a drop in replacement hardware and software device that needs software uploaded for the hardware. This improved EMS III is flashed with appropriate software part numbers that are available for download from SIS Web, and this software is not available through parts department. Validate, as with any software update, for any other machine system requirements that need to be performed due to software changes.

Note: Medium Wheel loaders may need a service port assembled and put onto the machine for flashing the EMS III module.

Refer to Special Instruction, REHS7365 for the hardware and software part numbers and procedure for updating to the new Electronic Monitoring System (EMS III).

    Note:

    (A) Prior to a service trip, go to SIS Web to make sure that the new flash file part number is still the latest flash file part number. A newer flash file part number may be available.

    (B) Before using Communications Adapter 3 (CA3), make sure that the PC drivers and CA3 firmware have been updated. CA3 news, drivers, and firmware are available at https://dealer.cat.com.

    (C) The new software is flashed onto the Module using "WinFlash". Always use the latest version of Caterpillar Electronic Technician for the optimal machine software support.
