Axle Housing, Axle Shaft, and Wheel Flange - Remove
Removal Procedure
Start By:
- Remove the rear axle.
- Remove final drive planetary.

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Drain the oil from the axle. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU9920, "Differential Oil (Rear) - Change".
- Position suitable cribbing under the axle to support the sections during removal. Attach a suitable lifting device onto axle housing, axle shaft, and wheel flange (3) . The weight of axle housing, axle shaft, and wheel flange (3) is approximately 31 kg (68 lb). Remove bolts (1) .

Note: Put location marks on the axle housing, brake cylinder assemblies, and the center housing for assembly purposes.
- Remove axle housing, axle shaft, and wheel flange (3) from brake cylinder assembly (2) .
- Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for the other side.
