Procedure to Rework Hydraulic System on the AS4251C Asphalt Screeds {5050}

Introduction

This Special Instruction provides the necessary information in order to rework the hydraulic system on the AS4251C Asphalt Screeds. The scope is to preserve motor tamper and vibe from getting failures.

Read the entire Special Instruction before order any parts or perform the following procedure. Do not perform any procedure in this publication or order any parts until you understand the information that is contained in this publication.

Rework Procedure

  1. Park the machine on a flat and smooth surface.

  1. Attach the tag refer to "Do not operate" while the machine rework will not be finished.

  1. Switch the battery off by using the key (1) in order to disconnect the electrical system

  1. Remove both covers (2) from the screed platform.

    (3) Hydraulic block

  1. Once the cover has been removed, onto the top left side of the screed, identify the hydraulic block (3) .

  1. In according with the hydraulic schematic, identify the block (3). Then identify connections D3 (4) and A7 (5).

  1. Looking on the sides of the block to find the stamping which identifies those ports D3 (4) and A7 (5) .

    (6) 277-7497 Hose As

  1. Unscrew and remove the 277-7497 Hose As from the D3 connection (4) to the hydraulic block (3) .

  1. Unscrew and remove the hose from the A7 connection (5) from the block (3) .

    (7) 6V-9837 Swivel Tee

  1. Mount to the A7 connection (5) of the hydraulic block, the 6V-9837 Swivel Tee (7) with 6V-8398 O-Ring Seals (8) provided into the kit.

    (9) 8C-8989 Elbow

  1. Mount the 45° 8C-8989 Elbow (9), to the swivel tee (7) with 6V-8398 O-Ring Seals (8) provided into the kit.

    (10) Free tee swivel terminal

  1. Connect the hose 272-0810 Hose As to the free tee swivel terminal (10) .

    (11) Location of the elbow 45? swivel

  1. Connect 277-7497 Hose As (5) (which comes from D3 connection of the block), to the elbow 45° swivel (11) .

  1. Ensure that 277-7497 Hose As (5) , 45° 8C-8989 Elbow (9), or any other component related to the new routing, does not come in contact with the block or other existing parts.

    (12) 9S-4191 O-Ring Plug

  1. Close the D3 connection by using the 9S-4191 O-Ring Plug (12), with the related 3J-1907 O-Ring Seal (13) .

  1. Replace all 16 of the 360-9134 Dampers (14) .

    (15) Broken motor seal

  1. Identify the broken motor seal (15) (vibratory or tamper).

  1. Remove the broken motor seal (15) .

  1. Replace the seal on the motor shaft with 421-5596 Lip Type Seal (16). In order to preserve the seal from damage follow these steps.

    1. Cover the splines of the shaft with electrical tape or something similar.

    1. Lubricate this surface with grease.

    1. Slide the 421-5596 Lip Type Seal (16) over the tape.

  1. Mount both covers (2) for the screed platform in order to restore the machine configuration.
