Introduction

This Special Instruction explains the procedure for adjusting the slide frame for the seat. Do not begin the procedure until you have read the information that is contained in this instruction.

Work safely. Most accidents that involve product operation, maintenance, and repair are caused by failure to observe basic safety rules or precautions. An accident can often be avoided by recognizing potentially hazardous situations before an accident occurs. A person must be alert to potential hazards. This person should also have the necessary training, skills, and tools to perform these functions properly.

Refer to the appropriate Parts Manual, Operation and Maintenance Manual, Disassembly and Assembly Manual, and Service Manual.

Safety precautions and warnings are provided in the manuals and on the product. If these hazard warnings are not heeded, bodily injury or death could occur to you or to other persons. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for your machine.

  1. Park the machine on a smooth, level surface. Move away from other operating machines and away from personnel.

  2. Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep other personnel away from the machine or in sight of the operator.

Adjustment Procedure

If the forward and rearward slide becomes loose, follow the steps below to tighten the slide and remove the looseness from the assembly.

  1. Locate the slide plate. The slide plate for earlier seats is located on the right side. The slide plate for later seats is located on the left side.

  2. Locate the two access holes on the slide plate. The two access holes are used to allow tightening.

  3. Slide the seat forward and slide the seat rearward to align the access holes with the gold colored screw.

  4. Apply Loctite 248 thread sealer to the screw. Use a 1/8th allen wrench to tighten the screw. Tightening the screw forces the plastic block of the slide outward. Forcing the block outward takes up the free play within the slide assembly. Tighten the screws by a quarter of a turn at a time and try the slide until all the free play has been removed.

  5. Overtightening will lock the slide assembly. The assembly should not exceed a force of 133 ± 22 N (30 ± 5 lb) to slide in the forward or rearward direction. To check, lift the handle for the slide and pull the seat forward. Use a gauge to measure pulling force.

  6. Repeat the tightening procedure to obtain force of 133 ± 22 N (30 ± 5 lb).

  7. Loosen the screws by a quarter of a turn at a time if the force is greater than 133 ± 22 N (30 ± 5 lb). Obtain a force of 133 ± 22 N (30 ± 5 lb).
