Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

Excessive wear of the crankshaft rear thrust washer may be found after an engine failure.

Solution

The thrust washer may have been worn because of a damaged torque converter input shaft. Inspect the shaft prior to reassembly.

A tolerance stack can cause excessive wear to the thrust washer. After the repair is complete, inspect the end play of the crankshaft out of the chassis and in the chassis.
