Introduction
The problem that is identified in the technical information bulletin that follows does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.
Problem
Incorrect metallurgy of 174-6821 Bushing results in early hour failures of the 8D-9459 Pinion As on the 16H. Incorrect metallurgy of 174-6820 Bushing results in early hour failures of the 8D-9480 Pinion As on the 14H.

A replacement bushing is available with greater durability. The replacement bushing is differentiated from the existing bushing by manufacture logo (A). When replacing the 8D-9459 Pinion As in a 16H, press the existing bushing out of the new assembly and replace with a separately purchased 174-6821 Bushing . When replacing the 8D-9480 Pinion As in a 14H, press the existing bushing out of the new assembly and replace with a separately purchased 174-6820 Bushing .
Although both bushings are the same part number, the bushings are supplied by different companies and have different qualities. Be sure to use the bushing with the logo stamped below the part number as shown in Illustration 1.
