Installation Procedure

  1. Remove cover (10) from the rear liner. See Illustration 1.

    Discard the cover.

    Note: Cover (10) is installed in the rear liner of the cab in order to cover the opening that is provided for the radio.

  1. Remove the parts that are provided inside cover (11). See Illustration 2.

  1. Raise the cab. Refer to "Tilting the Cab Upward" in the Maintenance Section of the Operation and Maintenance Manual for your machine.

  1. Disconnect the battery. Refer to "Battery and Battery Cable - Separate and Connect" in the Disassembly and Assembly Manual for your machine.

  1. Remove nut (12) and hard washer (13) in order to separate bracket (14) from the canopy. See Illustration 3.

  1. In order to remove cover (11), pry the cover from the retaining clips on both sides of the opening in the liner. See Illustration 4.

  1. Remove bracket (14) from the rear of cover (11) by prying off fastener (15). See Illustration 5.

    Discard fastener (15) .

  1. Use Illustration 6 and Table 2 for the specifications for the openings that are needed in the rear of cover (11). The openings are needed in order to accommodate the 200-5728 Radio Harness As (5) and the 9U-8746 Coaxial Cable Assembly (6).

  1. Cut the rectangular opening in the rear of cover (11) in the location that is specified for your radio. Use a die grinder in order to cut the opening in the cover.

    Drill the 15 mm (0.59 inch) hole in the rear of cover (11) in the location that is specified for your radio.

  1. Locate spacer (7). Remove the three inserts (7A), (7B), and (7C) from the center of spacer (7). See Illustration 7.

    Retain inserts (7A) and (7C) for installation in a later step in this instruction.

    Discard insert (7B) .

  1. Install spacer (7) onto the back of the rear liner, as shown. See Illustration 8.

    Note: Install the spacer by removing the protective paper strip from the adhesive and by pressing the spacer to the liner.

  1. Locate the radio. Then, remove the 192-7054 Sleeve (16) from the radio.

    Note: The 192-7054 Sleeve is provided with Caterpillar radios.

  1. Insert sleeve (16) into the opening in the rear liner. See Illustration 9.

    Secure the sleeve in place by bending the locking tabs against the back of the rear liner.

  1. Insert the radio into sleeve (16). Push the radio into the liner until the radio snaps in position. See Illustration 10.

  1. Install harness assembly (5) to the connector on the back of the radio. See Illustration 11.

  1. Slide cover (11) onto the radio.

    Note: As you slide the cover onto the sleeve, pull harness assembly (5) through the opening in the rear of cover (11). See Illustration 12.

  1. Install bracket (14) to the stud that extends through cover (11) with locknut (2) and hard washer (3). Then, secure bracket (14) to the weld stud with nut (12) and hard washer (13). Tighten nut (12) to a torque of 15 ± 3 N·m (11 ± 2 lb ft). See Illustration 13.

  1. Install coaxial cable (6) to the connector on the back of the radio. See Illustration 13.

  1. Install insert (7A) in order to seal the opening around the harness assembly (5). Install insert (7C) in order to seal the opening around the coaxial cable (6). See Illustration 14.

    Note: Install the inserts by removing the protective paper strip from the adhesive and by pressing the spacer to the flange.

  1. Install antenna (4) to the mounting bracket on the left wall of the canopy.

    1. Remove screw (23) and remove the antenna from the base assembly.

    1. Unscrew screw (20) in order to remove connector assembly (21) .

    1. Position the antenna's base with washer (22) on the front side of the mounting bracket and position connector assembly (21) on the rear side of the mounting bracket. Then, reinstall screw (20) into connector assembly (21) in order to secure the antenna's base to the mounting bracket.

    1. Reinstall the antenna to the base with screw (23) .

  1. Connect coaxial cable (6) to connector assembly (21) .

  1. Connect harness assembly (5) to harness connector C-C10 on the 258-4102 Cab Harness As . This 8-pin connector is located on the left side of the Electronic Control Monitor (ECM).

  1. Reconnect the battery. Refer to "Battery and Battery Cable - Separate and Connect" in the Disassembly and Assembly Manual for your machine.

  1. Lower the cab. Refer to "Tilting the Cab Upward" in the Maintenance Section of the Operation and Maintenance Manual for your machine.

  1. Test the operation of the radio.
