GPS Option Keys
This option is used in order to apply Option Keys to the GPS receiver. Each key is valid for one specific GPS receiver. The key can be based on the serial number of the receiver. The key can be based on a range of GPS receivers. A single key may be used in order turn on or off multiple functions of the GPS receiver.
A single key may also be used to change the "expiry" date. This date is the expiration date for being able to load the new firmware.
The name of an Option Key will be found in one of the following formats:
GPS Option Keys <serial number>.txt - This format is used for a single receiver System such as that used on the compactor.
GPS Option Keys.txt - This format is used for a System with multiple receivers. This format is not used on compactors.
The content of the key text file is a twenty-four character hexadecimal number. For a single receiver key, there may be multiple keys that will be applied to the receiver.
For a generic key that is applied to many receivers, the content will include a ten character serial number for each receiver. The serial number will be followed by one or more twenty-four character hexadecimal numbers for the codes.
Option Keys may be installed in one of two ways:
Automatic - The Option Key is placed in the root directory of the data card. The System automatically detects the keys.
Manual - The "GPS Option Keys" dialog is used to enter the key.
GPS Option Key Files
The GPS Option Key files are text files that can read by the user. The files contain Option Keys for the GPS receiver. Option Key files can be used as an alternative to manually entering the GPS Option Key with the "GPS Option Keys" dialog.
There are two types of Option Key files that can be used:
Specific - The serial number of the GPS receiver is part of the name of the file.
Generic - Each line of the file contains a serial number for a GPS receiver. The serial number is followed by the Option Key for that specific GPS receiver.
Specific Option Key File
The specific Option Key file is named "GPS Option Keys <serial number>.txt" where <serial number> is the serial number of the GPS receiver as reported in the program log and by the "GPS Option Key" dialog. This file is placed in the root directory of the data card.
The file contains one key per line. The file may contain as many keys as necessary. The option key can be of the format XXXXXXXX - XXXXXXXX - XXXXXXXX or XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX where X is a hexadecimal digit.
For example, a valid option key file containing two keys could look like this:
390ACC4E-8C453B21-CB13352F 01ECF8B03023EB4BBFD3756D     |
Generic Option Key File
The generic Option Key file is named "GPS Option Keys.txt". The file is placed in the root directory of the data card. The generic file has a slightly different format than the specific file.
Each line contains a serial number for the GPS receiver. The serial number is followed by any number of spaces. The spaces are followed by a GPS Option Key for that particular GPS receiver. The file can contain as many keys as necessary. Each key will be associated with a different GPS receiver.
The Option Key needs to be in the same format as the specific Option Key file. The format is XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX or XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX where X is a hexadecimal digit.
For example, a valid Option Key file containing three keys, all for different receivers, could look like this:
4626215722 390ACC4E8C453B21CE13352C 1323874482 61FE5666-54AB1B43-1F7355CC A348DB80 - 78E1F994 - 2C3642DE     |
Automatic Installation of the GPS Option Keys
In order to apply GPS Option Keys automatically, perform the following steps:
- Place the Option Key files in the root directory of the data card.
- Insert the data card into the Display.
- Start the Display in Service Mode. Refer to Systems Operation, "Modes of Operation".
- The Option Keys that are on the data card are automatically detected by the AccuGrade System. A dialog indicates the number of Option Keys that were found.

Illustration 7 | g01385141 |
Note: This procedure does not need to be completed again until the Option Key expires, or there is a need to change the available functions for the GPS receiver.
Note: Caterpillar recommends that you delete the Option Key files from your data card after this installation is complete.
