Check Of the Bolts On the Boom Adapter

Illustration 2g01729377

(16) Bolts ... 700 ± 90 N·m (516 ± 66 lb ft)

Check the torque of the bolts and check the condition of the washer's monthly.

Note: Replace the bolts when the bolts have been removed.

Inspection Of the Main Bearing

Illustration 3g01729416

  1. Check the play of main bearing (17) .

Minimum recommended play ... 0.127 mm (0.005 inch)

Maximum recommended play ... 0.318 mm (0.0125 inch)

Note: If the play of the bearing exceeds the recommended measurement, follow one of the options below:

First Option

    Illustration 4g01729515

  1. Rotate male bearing (19) and female bearing (20) by 90 degrees in the opposite direction. Turn over wear plate (18) by 180 degrees.

Second Option

Illustration 5g01729653

  1. Turn the wear plate over 180 degrees.

  1. Measure the external rim for the male bearing at each 90 degree (A) .

  1. Machine the external flat surface (B) of the female bearing.

    Note: Respect the following formula:

    Note: Facing = d + 0.005"

Third Option

If you can not eliminate play, replace all components.

Inspection of Gears

Check Of Gear Wear

Play in gear

Illustration 7g01730013

  1. Check the wear of the gears (C) by maintaining the frame in one direction.

Note: The maximum recommended play in the gears is 3.175 mm (0.125 inch).

Replacement Of a Gear Segment

    Illustration 8g01730074

  1. Remove 4 bolts (21) from gear segment (22). Dislodge gear segment (22) by threading 2 puller bolts (23) into the removal holes.

    Illustration 9g01730070

  1. Torque the bolts in the sequence that is shown in Illustration 9. Torque the bolts three times. Start with the first sequence.

    First sequence ... 203 N·m (150 lb ft)

    Second sequence ... 339 N·m (250 lb ft)

    Third sequence ... 513 N·m (378 lb ft)

Inspection of the Gear On the Adapter

Main Gear Removal

  1. Remove the bolts on the adapter of the boom. Dislodge the adapter.

    Illustration 10g01730456

  1. Screw in two puller bolts (24) onto the main gear (25) .

  1. Orient main gear (25) by 180 degree's or replace the main gear. As a reference, the puller holes must always be oriented on the top and on the bottom of the main gear.

Inspection Of the Balancing Frame

    Illustration 11g01730513

  1. Check the condition of the holes on the balancing frame. Thoroughly clean the holes.

  1. In case of ruptured holes, repair the balancing frame or replace the frame.

Installation Of the Top Pin

Illustration 12g01730535

  1. Align the top pin holes with the pattern for the head bolts. Use the bolts (30) in order to push the top pin into the proper place.

  1. Install balancing frame (26) on top pin (27). Press balancing frame (26) against the frame of the felling head.

  1. Torque bolts (30) to 454 N·m (335 lb ft).

    Illustration 13g01730635

  1. Add shims (28) between the balancing frame and top washer (29) in order to reduce play.

Note: Maximum recommended play is 0.762 mm (0.03 inch) (D) .

    Illustration 14g01730634

  1. Torque the bolts in a cross pattern to 339 N·m (250 lb ft). Then, torque the bolts again in a cross pattern to 616 N·m (454 lb ft).

Inspection Of the Cylinders

Check Of the Cylinders

Illustration 15g01730693

  1. Check the condition of wiper seal (31) .

  1. Ensure that wiper seal (31) is seated on the seat.

Check Of the Lubrication

Illustration 16g01731653

  1. Ensure that the oil reservoir has proper flow. Recommended oil flow is one drop at every two seconds or one gallon per week.

Note: Reservoir capacity is 1 gallon.
