Introduction
This Technical Information Bulletin replaces the 07March 2007 TIB, "No GPS DATA (Right) Message on AccuGrade® Systems". Disregard the 07March 2007 TIB. Refer to the following information.
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.
Problem
The AccuGrade® System has experienced repeated instances of a "No GPS Data (Right)" diagnostics error. This diagnostics error mainly affects dual GPS systems.
Analysis of the CAN data link traffic has indicated that the ECM was transmitting error frames onto the CAN data link frequently enough to disrupt normal communications. This disruption causes the AccuGrade® System to intermittently lose communication with other AccuGrade® components. This results in a poor response from the GPS receivers. When a loss of communication between the AccuGrade® and an AccuGrade® component occurs, the system registers the component as missing.
Solution
A Software improvement for the Valve Control ECM has been made. The enhanced software provides improved communications over the CAN data link. Use Table 1 in order to identify which software part number to use.

( 1 ) | Check with your Technical Communicator in order to ensure that you have the latest version of software that is available. |
( 2 ) | Before flashing the 304-1764 Power Train Software, ensure that the EMS and the Engine ECM have the latest software. Refer to the following publications: Service Magazine, SEPD0858, "Updated Power Train Software for Calibrating the Electronic Clutch Pressure Control" and Special Instruction, REHS3307, "Procedures for Updating D6R Series III For Compatibility with the Latest Version of Power Train Software". |
( 3 ) | Applies to machines with a Serial Number Range from 1 to 1499 |
( 4 ) | Applies to machines with Serial Number Range from 1500 and UP |
The flash files that are listed in Table 1 can be found on SIS Web. Caterpillar Electronic Technician is used to flash the software into the ECM.
