Usage:

725 AFX
Articulated Truck:
725 (S/N: AFX1-UP; B1L1-UP)

730 EJECTOR (S/N: B1W1-UP)
Service Magazine SEPD0862, 6 November 2006, "A High Capacity Oil Filter for the Output Transfer Gear Is Used". Disregard this article. Refer to the following information.

Description of Change: A new high capacity oil filter for the lubrication system of the output transfer gear and supply to the differential locks is used on the listed machines. The high capacity oil filter replaces the former oil filter.

The high capacity oil filter offers better service life. The high capacity filter also improves the capacity of the lubrication system in handling cold hydraulic oil during start-up.

Adaptable To: A new 287-1499 Oil Filter (High Capacity) replaces the former 196-5540 Oil Filter .

The 287-1499 Oil Filter (High Capacity) uses a 1G-8878 Oil Filter Element that is longer than the 144-6691 Oil Filter Element that is used by the former 196-5540 Oil Filter .

The 287-1499 Oil Filter (High Capacity) is effective on 725 (S/N: B1L1229-UP), 730 (S/N: B1M1122-UP) and 730 EJECTOR (S/N: B1W244-UP).

The 287-1499 Oil Filter (High Capacity) is adaptable to earlier machines.

Installing a 287-1499 Oil Filter (High Capacity)

The 287-1499 Oil Filter (High Capacity) is adaptable to earlier machines by installing a 291-9001 Bracket. It will also be necessary to replace the 180-1694 Hose that goes between the oil filter and the output transfer gear with a 263-2201 Hose because of the change in position of the filter outlet port.

The filter base on the former 196-5540 Oil Filter can be used with a new 1G-8878 Filter Element as an alternative to installing a complete new 287-1499 Oil Filter (High Capacity). The following installation information assumes that the former filter base is being adapted to the new longer filter element.

  1. Disconnect hose (6) from filter base (4) and the output transfer gear. Discard the hose. Cover the port on the filter base and to the output transfer gear in order to avoid contamination of the hydraulic oil system.

  1. Remove any cable straps that are securing the harness for the filter to the bracket on the side of the frame.

  1. Cut the cable straps that secure the harness for the filter to clips (1) .

  1. Remove bolts (2), clips (1) and washers (3) in order to remove filter base (4) and oil filter element (5) from the bracket on the side of the frame. Retain a clip and washers for later use. Remove the oil filter element from the filter base and discard the oil filter element. Secure the filter base to the frame with a suitable cable strap in order to avoid tension on the hose and the cable harness that is attached to the filter base.

  1. Install bracket (7) to the bracket on the inside of the frame with bolts (12), washers (10), hard washers (3) and nuts (11) .

  1. Remove the cable strap that is securing the filter base (4) and install the filter base to the other end of bracket (7) with bolts (8) and hard washers (3) at two places. At the other two places, install clips (1), bolts (2) and hard washers (3). Refer to Illustration 2.

Note: If the supply hose to the filter was disconnected, an additional O-ring seal (14) is in the list of required parts in order to replace the old O-ring seal. When you reconnect the hose, use a new O-ring seal.

  1. Secure connectors for the harness to the filter to clips (1) with 3S-2093 Cable Straps. Use a 3S-2093 Cable Strap in order to secure the slack of the harness to the link on the top of bracket (7). Refer to the arrow in Illustration 2.

  1. Install hose (13) with new O-ring seals (14) between filter base (4) and the output transfer gear.

  1. Install oil filter element (9) to filter base (4) .
