Engine Trunnion - Remove and Install

Start By:

  1. Remove the crankshaft vibration damper and pulley. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Vibration Damper and Pulley - Remove and Install".


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System (ELC) Coolant - Change". Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities - Refill".

  1. Remove bolts (1) .

  1. Use Tooling (C) and suitable blocking under the engine oil pan in order to support the engine.

  1. Disconnect hose (2) . Remove bolts (3) and (4) . Remove support assembly (5) .

  1. Remove bolts (6) . Remove adapter (7) .

  1. Use Tooling (A) , Tooling (B) , and a suitable press in order to remove trunnion (8) from adapter (7) .

  1. Use Tooling (D) and a suitable press in order to install trunnion (8) to adapter (7) .

  1. Position adapter (7) and install bolts (6) .

  1. Position support assembly (5) . Install bolts (3) and (4) . Connect hose (2) .

  1. Remove Tooling (C) and the suitable blocking from the engine oil pan.

  1. Install bolts (1) .

  1. Fill the cooling system coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System (ELC) Coolant - Change". Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities - Refill".

End By: Install the crankshaft vibration damper and pulley. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Vibration Damper and Pulley - Remove and Install".
