Required Tools
Part Number     Part Description     Qty
177-7861     Hose As     1

This procedure should be followed when the technician is removing a hydraulic line or a hydraulic component.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from escaping fluid under pressure.

Escaping fluid under pressure, even a very small pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue and cause serious injury and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.

Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

Sudden movement of the machine or release of oil under pressure can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.

To prevent possible injury, perform the procedure that follows before testing and adjusting the brake system.

----------------------

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

    (2) Service brake pressure gauge for the front brakes

    (3) Service brake pressure gauge for the rear brakes

  1. Check the readings on front service brake pressure gauge (2) and rear service brake pressure gauge (3) on the dash panel in the operator station. The brake pressure gauges should read 0 kPa (0 psi) when the service brake pedal is depressed.

    (4) Pressure tap (brake accumulator oil)

  1. If the brake pressure gauges are not fitted, then connect a 177-7861 Hose As and an 8T-0859 Pressure Gauge to pressure tap (4). Check the reading on the 8T-0859 Pressure Gauge. The pressure gauge should read 0 kPa (0 psi) when the service brake pedal is depressed.

  1. If the pressure on any of the gauges does not read 0 kPa (0 psi), repeat Step 2 through Step 5.
