Drive Shaft (Rear) - Remove and Install

Usage:

R1700G SBR

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Install the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Remove and Install".

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from driveline torque windup under load.

Unequal wheel speed can result in driveline torque windup which can cause driveline components to be under load during disassembly.

Relieve the driveline torque windup before disassembly.

  1. Remove four bolts (1) and guard (2).

  2. Remove four bolts (3).

  3. Remove four bolts (4).

  4. Use two people to remove rear drive shaft (5). The weight of rear drive shaft (5) is approximately 30 kg (66 lb).

NOTICE

When the rear drive shaft is installed, it must be installed in phase with the rear axle assembly yoke. The rear drive shaft must be installed in phase with the center and front drive shafts. Serious component damage could occur. Be certain that all the joint groups, all the yokes, and all the lubricating fittings are aligned.

    Note: Prior to assembly, wipe the mounting surfaces of the bearing caps and the mounting surfaces of the yokes. Make sure both the mounting surfaces are clean.

  1. Use two people to install rear drive shaft (5) between the output yoke of the output transfer gears and the rear differential. The weight of rear drive shaft (5) is approximately 30 kg (66 lb)

  2. Apply Tooling (A) and then apply Tooling (B) to the threads of bolts (3) and bolts (4) prior to installation.

  3. Install four bolts (3). Tighten four bolts (3) to a torque of 150 ± 15 N·m (110 ± 11 lb ft).

  4. Install four bolts (4). Tighten four bolts (4) to a torque of 160 ± 15 N·m (120 ± 11 lb ft).

  5. Install guard (2) and four bolts (1).

End By:

  1. Remove the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Remove and Install".
