Harness (Speed Potentiometer) and Electronic Sensor - Test
Note: This procedure is performed on the speed potentiometer, which is on the left instrument panel. This is the same procedure for testing the speed potentiometer on the right instrument panel.
Note: The buffer and the speed potentiometer are tested during this procedure.

- Rotate speed dial (3) to the MINIMUM position.
- Move parking brake switch (4) to the ON position.
- Move screed lower switch (6) to the DOWN position. Lower the screed to the ground.
- Move throttle control switch (5) to the LOW IDLE position. Hold the switch in this position for less than 1 second.
- After the engine reaches low idle, move engine start switch (1) to the OFF position.
- Move operator station selector switch (7) to the LEFT position.

- Set Tool (A) to read duty cycle.
- Move key switch (8) to the ON position.
- The value on Tool (A) should be 10 ± 3 percent. If the value is outside the specified range, remove the tooling. Then go to Step 20 in order to test the speed potentiometer. If the value is inside the specified range, go to Step 16.
- Slowly, steadily rotate speed dial (3) to the MAXIMUM position. Observe the reading on Tool (A). The value should steadily increase as the dial is moved to the maximum range. The value should not stop increasing until the dial reaches the maximum stop. When the dial is against the maximum stop, the value on Tool (A) should be 90 ± 3 percent.
- Move speed dial (3) to the MINIMUM position. Move the key switch to the OFF position.
- Remove the tooling.
- If the readings on Tool (A) are within the specified ranges, go to Step 33. If the readings on Tool (A) do not steadily change through the full range of speed dial (3), then go to the next step. If the readings on Tool (A) are not within the specified range, then go to the next step.
Note: Test the speed potentiometer in Step 20 through Step 29.
- Remove seven screws (10) from panel (11) .

- Insert the red spoon from Tool (B) into contact B (white wire) of connector (15). Insert the black spoon from Tool (B) into contact C (black wire) of the connector.
- Set Tool (A) to read "Ohms".
- The value on Tool (A) should be "0–1 Ohms".
- Slowly, steadily rotate speed dial (3) to the MAXIMUM position. Observe the reading on Tool (A). The value should steadily increase as the lever is moved to the maximum range. The value should not stop increasing until the dial reaches the maximum stop. When the dial is against the maximum stop, the value on Tool (A) should be 975 ± 25 Ohms.
- Move speed dial (3) to the MINIMUM position.
- Remove the tooling. Reconnect connector (15) .
- If the measurements in Step15 and Step 16 were out of the specified range, and the measurements in Step 26 and Step 27 were out of the specified range, go to Step 31. If the measurements in Step 15 and Step 16 were out of the specified range, and the measurements in Step 26 and Step 27 were within the specified range, go to Step 32. If all measurements were within the specified range, go to Step 33.
- Replace the speed potentiometer. Go back to Step 23.
- Replace the buffer. Go back to Step 11.
- If necessary, reconnect connector (15) and replace cover (13) .
