Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement. Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine. To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the machine. |
Injury to personnel can result if they are not in the operator's view. Allow only essential personnel near the machine, and make sure the personnel are in the operator's view when testing, to prevent injury. Make sure checks are done in an open area. |
Personal injury can result from rotating and moving parts. Moving fan blades and moving parts will throw or cut any object or tool that falls or is pushed into them. Make sure no one is working on, underneath or close to an engine that is running. Make sure the area is free of personnel. |
Note: The conveyor and the auger will engage at full speed during the following test. Personnel and tools should remain clear of the components during this procedure.
Note: The flow test for the piston pump will measure the hydraulic oil flow rate in order to determine if the pump is operating within the design parameters. The following tests will measure the speed of the drag conveyors and the speed of the auger. These tests will ensure that the pumps are operating within the intended design parameters.
Note: The following procedures require an operator and a helper. Make sure that the helper is in full view of the operator at all times.

Preparation for Test
- Drive the machine to a smooth, horizontal surface.
- Move propulsion lever (2) to the NEUTRAL position.

- Rotate speed dial (3) to the MINIMUM position.
- Move parking brake switch (4) to the ON position.
- Move left screed extension switch (7) to the EXTEND position. Release the switch when the left screed extension is fully extended.
- Move right screed extension switch (8) to the EXTEND position. Release the switch when the right screed extension is fully extended.
- Move screed lower switch (6) to the DOWN position. Lower the screed to the ground.
- Move throttle control switch (5) to the LOW IDLE position. Hold the switch in this position for less than 1 second.
- After the engine reaches low idle, move engine start switch (1) to the OFF position.
- Move key switch (9) to the OFF position.

- Lift cover (10). Attach a piece of reflective tape from Tool (A) to the curved part of drag pan (11) .
Illustration 3 | g01163373 |
- Repeat Step 11 for the drag conveyor which is on the right side of the hopper.
- Attach a piece of reflective tape from Tool (A) to the end of right auger shaft (12) .
Illustration 4 | g01163371 |
- Repeat Step 13 for the auger which is on the left side of the machine.
- Move key switch (7) to the ON position. Move engine start switch (1) to the START position. Release the engine start switch after the engine starts.
- Move throttle control switch (5) to the HIGH IDLE position. Hold the switch in this position for less than 1 second. The engine speed should increase to 2310 rpm.
- Monitor the hydraulic oil temperature with Tool (B). Operate the machine until the oil temperature reaches 43 ± 5.6°C (110 ± 10°F).
- Perform the following procedure in "Check the Speed of the Drag Conveyor".
Check the Speed of the Drag Conveyor
- Rotate left conveyor speed ratio dial (13) to the MAXIMUM position. Rotate right conveyor speed ratio dial (14) to the MAXIMUM position.
Illustration 5 | g01163375 |
- Move left conveyor speed switch (15) to the MANUAL position. Hold the switch in this position.
- Use Tool (A) in order to measure the speed of the left conveyor. Continue to measure the conveyor speed until the reading on Tool (A) stabilizes. Record the measurement as "left conveyor speed".
- Release left conveyor speed switch (15) .
- Move right conveyor speed switch (16) to the MANUAL position. Hold the switch in this position.
- Use Tool (A) to measure the speed of the right conveyor. Continue to measure the conveyor speed until the reading on Tool (A) stabilizes. Record the measurement as "right conveyor speed".
- Release right conveyor speed switch (16) .
- Rotate left conveyor speed ratio dial (13) to the MINIMUM position. Rotate right conveyor speed ratio dial (14) to the MINIMUM position.
- The speed of both conveyors should be 150 ± 8 slats per minute. If the conveyor speed is within the specified range, perform the procedure in "Check the Speed of the Auger Conveyor". If the speed of either conveyor is not within the specified range, go to Step 10.
- Calibrate the specifications for the drag conveyor. Refer to Troubleshooting, KENR5036.
NOTE: If the conveyor does not operate within the design parameters, troubleshoot the corresponding hydraulic pump and the motor.
- Go to Step 2.
Check the Speed of the Auger Conveyor
- Move left auger control switch (17) to the MANUAL position. Hold the switch in this position.
Illustration 6 | g01163379 |
- Use Tool (A) in order to measure the speed of the left auger. Continue to measure the auger speed until the reading on Tool (A) stabilizes. Record the measurement as "left auger speed".
- Release left auger control switch (17) .
- Move right auger control switch (18) to the MANUAL position. Hold the switch in this position.
- Use Tool (A) in order to measure the speed of the right auger. Continue to measure the auger speed until the reading on Tool (A) stabilizes. Record the measurement as "right auger speed".
- Release right auger control switch (18) .
- The speed of both auger shafts should be 140 ± 5 rpm. If the auger speed is within the specified range, go to Step 10. If the speed of either conveyor is not within the specified range, go to Step 8.
- Calibrate the auger within the specifications. Refer to Troubleshooting, KENR5036.
Note: If the auger does not operate within the design parameter, troubleshoot the corresponding hydraulic pump and the motor.
