The toric material of the standard Duo-Cone seal that is used in D8R/N through D11R/N rollers and idlers is a low temperature nitrile compound. Field tests and lab tests have proven that this material is far superior in abrasion resistance in arctic applications over the former yellow silicone toric material. In temperatures that exceed -34 °C (-30 °F), the performance of the low temperature nitrile O-rings is excellent. The standard low temperature nitrile is replacing the former yellow silicone toric material in arctic application Duo-Cone seals in rollers and idlers.

The new Duo-Cone seals are adaptable to all of the rollers and idlers of the Track-Type Tractors that are listed above. The new seals are only adaptable to the idlers of the Pipelayer that is listed above.

The changes to the part numbers of the Duo-Cone seal group are listed in the following Table.

Note: When rebuilding rollers and idlers use the new Duo-Cone seal gp for most applications, this includes arctic applications. The former silicon toric Duo-Cone seal groups will remain serviceable for use in applications that have extreme temperatures such as steel mills.

Roller groups and idler groups that contain the new Duo-Cone seal with the new toric material are now available for use in arctic applications.

Note: Arctic Rollers and Idlers also contain 5W-40 synthetic oil instead of the standard SAE30 oil.

Refer to the following table for the part numbers of the roller groups and the part numbers of the idler groups that contain the Duo-Cone seal with the new toric material that is used for arctic applications.

In conjunction with the changes to the part numbers, additional changes have been made to the part numbers of the rollers which are available for high temperature applications. Rollers that are for high temperature applications, which are typically used in steel mills, will continue to utilize silicone toric material in the Duo-Cone seals.

The changes to the part numbers for the rollers that are for high temperature applications are outlined in the following table.

Note: ET (Extreme Temperature) is stamped on the roller shaft.
