Sudden movement of the machine or release of oil under pressure can cause serious injury to persons on or near the machine. To prevent possible injury, perform the procedure that follows before testing and adjusting the hydraulic system. |
NOTICE |
---|
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |

B | - | 4C-6500 | Tire Pressure Gauge | 1 |
Note: Perform the following steps before conducting this procedure:
- Park the machine in a flat, level spot.
- Place the propel control lever in NEUTRAL.
- Engage the parking brake.
- Stop the engine.
- Open drain valve (2) on the bottom of air tank (1). Release all the air pressure in the tank.

- Start the engine. Operate the engine at 2250 rpm (high idle).

- After the air compressor stops, use Tool B to measure the pressure at Tool A. The gauge should register
930 ± 35 kPa (135 ± 5 psi) . - Open drain valve (2) on the bottom of air tank (1). Record the air pressure in the tank at the point when the air compressor turns on. The pressure should be
760 ± 35 kPa (110 ± 5 psi) . - Close drain valve (2). If the pressure is inside the specified range, stop the engine. Then open drain valve (2) and release the pressure in air tank (1). Remove the tooling. If the pressure is outside the specified range, you will need to adjust the switch for the pressure regulator.

- If both the cut-in and cut out pressure are out of tolerance, go to Step 10. If the cut-in pressure is out of tolerance, go to Step 10. If cut out pressure is out of tolerance, go to Step 11.

(7) Adjustment screw - If the cut-in pressure is out of tolerance, use adjustment screw (7) to adjust the cut-in pressure. Recheck the cut-in pressure. Go to Step 11.
Note: Adjustment screw (6) adjusts the cut out pressure. Adjustment screw (7) adjusts the cut-in and cut out pressure together.
- Check the cut out pressure, as described above. If the cut out pressure is outside the specified range, use adjustment screw (6) to adjust the pressure.
- Recheck the cut-in and cut out pressure. If the pressure is inside the specified range, stop the engine. Then open drain valve (2). Release the pressure in air tank (1), and remove the tooling.
