PROBLEM
The existing damper bolts can fail due to fretting at the mating surface between the damper spacer and the underside of the bolt head. The spacer and bolts need to be replaced to prevent a failure and subsequent unscheduled downtime. |

ACTION REQUIRED
Remove all 283-1677 Spacers from dealer parts stock. |
Note: 2 Guide Bolts (tool part number 323-4712) are recommended for this procedure 1. Remove the 8J-8919 damper guard cover to allow access to bolts and spacer. 2. Remove two bolts and install guide bolts as shown in Image1. 3. Remove remainder of the bolts and the old 283-1677 spacer. 4. Lubricate new 240-0312 Bolt threads, under bolt head, and the new 360-1190 Spacer plate with clean engine oil. 5. Install spacer and 4 bolts in the countersink holes. Bolts should be finger tight or snug fit using a torque gun, caution must be used to ensure the bolt head seats in the countersink. 6. Remove guide bolts and install remaining 8 bolts. 7. Start by tightening the four countersink bolts (A,B,C,D pattern) to 350 +/- 50Nm. 8. Tighten all the other bolts to 350 +/- 50 Nm in a star pattern (as shown in image 2). 9. Tighten to 700 +/- 50Nm in the same pattern. |
