Service Brake (Wheel Spindle) - Remove

Start By:

  1. Remove the drive chains. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Drive Chain - Remove".

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

Note: SERVICE DATA: TOOLING (ZZ) WILL NOT BE IDENTIFIED IN PHOTOGRAPHS IN THE REMOVAL OR THE INSTALLATION. THIS TOOLING IS SHOWN IN ORDER TO ASSIST THE EXPERIENCED SERVICEMAN.

  1. Drain the air tanks. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Air Tank Moisture and Sediment - Drain" for the correct procedure.

  2. Place suitable blocking under tandem (1). The blocking should be on the opposite side of the brake and the wheel spindle housing.

  3. Remove bolts (2) and remove guard (3).

  4. Disconnect tube assembly (4). Remove bolts (5).

  5. Attach Tooling (A) and (B), as shown. Attach a suitable lifting device to Tooling (A) and (B).

  6. Remove bolts (6). Remove service brake (7). The weight of service brake (7) is approximately 362 kg (800 lb).
