In order to prevent injury, make sure that no one is working on the machine or near the machine. Keep the machine under control at all times in order to prevent injury.
Know the maximum height of the machine. Know the maximum width of the machine. Maintain proper clearance.
Only operate the controls if the engine is running.
Reduce engine speed when you are maneuvering in tight quarters or when you are driving over a rise.
Select the speed range before you start down a grade. When you drive down a grade, use the same gear range that is used for driving up a grade when the machine is loaded.
If the machine builds up excessive speed, the engine can overspeed. Do not allow the engine to overspeed when you drive downhill. Use the retarder control to reduce the machine speed.

- Adjust the operator's seat.
- Fasten the seat belt for the operator.
- Fasten the seat belt for the companion seat.

- Release service brake control pedal (6) and depress accelerator control pedal (7).
Before the machine operates at a high speed, check the operation of the brake system and of the steering system. These systems should be checked while the machine maintains a low speed.
