Problem:
The EMS II electronic control module, located in the Electronic Instrument Panel (EIP), may experience a periodic communication problem, the problem is characterized by the EMS II's lights all flashing and the EMS II logging an 030 248F02 (data erratic, intermittent or incorrect) diagnostic code. Usually this condition is seen on 3500B marine propulsion engines and takes several hours of continuous operation to occur.
Solution:
Communication is reestablished automatically after a minute or two or if the power to the Electronic Control Module (ECM) is cycled. The problem is believed to be software related, but the exact cause has not yet been determined. Engineering is investigating the problem. Do NOT replace the 115-4636, 127-0336, 135-6957, or 149-0339 EMS II or the ECM because that will not solve the problem.
