Description of Change: Improved seals are used in the folded core radiators. The new seals have the same dimensions as the former seals, but are made with an improved process to withstand wide variations in temperature. Results indicate that the new seals have improved sealing properties under adverse weather and operating conditions. This improvement reduces the likelihood of coolant leaks at low ambient temperatures. The former seals demonstrated improved sealing, but did not provide correct temperature set properties.
Adaptable To: The new 9Y1654 and 9Y1655 End Tank Seals replace the former 8N5130 and 8N7139 End Tank Seals, respectively. The former seals are still available for parts service, but should not be mixed with the new seals. This change is adaptable to all machines using folded core radiators and modules. See the illustration for the typical location of the new seals.
NOTE: The folded core may be assembled more easily if the seals are installed in the top and bottom tanks rather than on the module necks. Lubricate the seal inside surface and the module neck with 5P3975 Rubber Lubricant. Insert the module. Placing the seals on the module first will increase the likelihood of a seal twist. Always use the rubber lubricant between the module and the seal. If the lubricant is not available, a liquid dishwashing soap may be used. Do NOT use any petroleum based products or products that contain abrasive particles.
