General Information Section

Introduction

The 212-1503 Lightweight, Portable Parts Washer is an easy-to-handle parts washer that can be used in the shop, or out in the field for on-site cleaning. It consists of a basin, cover, pump, and accessories.

It is powered by a low pressure, air-powered pump. It features a flow-through brush for cleaning, and a low-pressure air gun for drying parts. A built-in non-adjustable air pressure regulator is preset to 2.2 bar (31.90 psi).

The portable parts washer comes with one blanket microfilter and one oil absorbent sock. The blanket microfilter can be washed and reused before disposal, The oil absorbent sock can retain up to 2 L (2.1 qt) of oil.

Note: The plastic cover is used to prevent dirt and debris from entering the portable parts washer when not in use. The cover will not prevent fluid spills during transport.

Operation Section

Setting Up the Parts Washer

1. Install a 1/4" NPT quick-disconnect air fitting (1) into the tee fitting under the tray. Use thread sealant and tighten the fitting snugly.

NOTICE
When handling the basin, take care not to damage the blue compressed air exhaust tube (2) on the bottom of the pump. Damaging this tube will render the air pump inoperable.

2. The oil absorbent sock inside the basin, must be placed in the correct position before filling the basin with cleaning solution. Position it towards the end of the basin with the pump intake, as shown.

Note: A water-based cleaner or degreaser is required. For information on solvent/cleaning solution refer to the Contact Information section in this manual.

3. Carefully pour 1 L (1.1 qt) of concentrated water-based cleaner through the blanket microfilter, into the basin. Add 12 L (3.2 US gal) of water to bring the level up to just below the filter. Pouring through the blanket microfilter prevents the liquid from splashing.

Note: The blanket microfilter only allows cleaning solution to flow through it in one direction. Make sure that the blanket microfilter is installed with the folded edge facing down.

Note: A 1/10th percent solution of 1U-8806 Bactericide (Hydrosolv 174) can be added to the cleaning solution. This will prevent the growth of bacteria and the resulting unpleasant odors.

Using the Parts Washer

1. Connect a regulated air supply to quick disconnect fitting (1). Move the black valve handle, located on the side of the tray, to direct the flow of solution to the flexible nozzle or the flow-through brush. To stop the flow, move the handle back to the vertical position.

NOTICE
The regulator mounted on the portable parts washer is preset at 145 kPa (32.0 psi) and should not be adjusted. The pump can be damaged by higher air pressure.

Note: Purge the air from the system when the equipment is first used. Point the flexible nozzle toward the center of the tray and hold the flow-thru brush pointed toward the center of the tray. Move the black valve handle both directions until cleaning solution flows from the flexible nozzle and the flow-through brush.

2. Set the parts to be cleaned on the grille. Move the valve handle to select the flow of cleaning solution through the flexible nozzle (3), or flow-through brush (4). Use the stream of cleaning solution and flow-through brush to remove dirt, debris, and oil from the parts.

3. Use the yellow air nozzle (5) to dry the clean parts with low pressure compressed air.

4. When not in use, disconnect the pressure air supply and place the plastic cover over the basin to prevent dirt and debris from entering the portable parts washer.

Transporting the Parts Washer

Note: The plastic cover is used to prevent dirt and debris from entering the portable parts washer when not in use. The cover will not prevent fluid spills during transport.

1. For transport, the cleaning solution can be removed from the basin by connecting a regulated air supply and pumping the cleaning solution through the flexible nozzle into a suitable container. Stop pumping before the level of the cleaning solution reaches the pump pickup inside the basin.

Note: If the cleaning solution is in acceptable condition, save the solution for reuse in the portable parts washer. Otherwise, follow all Local, State, and Federal guidelines for the disposal of used cleaning solution.

2. Place the plastic cover over the basin to prevent dirt and debris from entering the portable parts washer during transport.

Note: Before refilling the basin with cleaning solution, make sure the oil absorbent sock inside the basin is in the correct position. Position it towards the end of the basin with the pump intake, as shown.

3. After transport, refill the basin with cleaning solution. Reuse acceptable cleaning solution removed in Step 1 or new cleaning solution as required. Pour through the blanket microfilter to prevent the liquid from splashing.

Note: If the cleaning solution is in need of replacement, refer to ""Replacing Blanket Microfilter, Cleaning Solution, and Oil Absorbent Sock" " Section in this manual.

Maintenance Section

Replacing Blanket Microfilter, Cleaning Solution, and Oil Absorbent Sock

1. Loosen the four wing nuts and slide the grille over and up. Remove the dirty 212-1505 Blanket Microfilter . Follow all laws and regulations for the proper disposal of used filters.

2. The cleaning solution and oil absorbent sock can normally be replaced at the same time. The oil absorbent sock will hold 2 L (2.1 qt) of oil, and may not need replacement each time the cleaning solution is replenished.

3. The cleaning solution can be removed from the basin by connecting a regulated air supply and pumping the old cleaning solution through the flexible nozzle into a suitable receptacle. Stop pumping before the level of the cleaning solution reaches the pump pickup inside the basin.

Note: Follow all Local, State, and Federal guidelines for the disposal of used cleaning solution.

4. Disconnect the air supply and carefully pour the remaining solution into the receptacle. Follow all local, state, and Federal laws and regulations for the proper disposal of used cleaning solution.

5. Any remaining sediment can be wiped out with disposable towels.

6. Place the 212-1504 Oil Absorbent Sock in the bottom of the basin. Position the sock towards the end of the basin with the pump intake, as shown.

7. Install a new 212-1505 Blanket Microfilter , with the folded edge side down. Replace the grille and tighten the four wing nuts (hand tight only).
