  1. Put SAE 90W oil on each end of bushing (2) for a minimum length of 5 mm (.20 inch).

Note: Use a maximum force of 445 kN (100000 lb) when you assemble the track.

  1. Use Tooling (A) in order to install bushing (2) in link (1). Push the bushing inward until the pin makes contact with the 5P-2188 Adapter. The bushing must extend 1.45 ± 0.13 mm (.0570 ± .005 inch) beyond the surface of the link.

  1. Put link (1), bushing (2), and link (3) into position in Tooling (A), as shown.

  1. Install Tooling (C) in order to align links (1) and (3) .

  1. Install bushing (2) in link (3) with Tooling (A) until the bushing makes contact with the 5P-2188 Adapter. The bushing must extend 1.45 ± 0.13 mm (.0570 ± .005 inch) beyond the surface of the link.

    NOTICE

The counterbore in the links must be clean and free of oil. Do not allow oil to come in contact with load ring (4). The load ring will swell and the load ring will deteriorate if the load ring comes in contact with oil.

  1. Install load ring (4), seal (5), and ring (6) in each side of the assembly. Put clean SAE 90W oil on the sharp sealing edge of the seal only.

  1. The seals and rings must be in position in link assembly (7). Put clean SAE 90W oil on the sealing edge of the seals.

  1. Use Tooling (B) and spread link assembly (7) in order to install link assembly (8) .

    NOTICE

Make sure that you do not damage the face of the seals when you install link assembly (8) .

  1. Put link assembly (8) into position in link assembly (7) and install Tooling (C) in order to hold the link assemblies in place.

  1. Use Tooling (B) and spread link assembly (8) in order to connect link assembly (8) to link assembly (9) .

  1. Put link assembly (8) in position on link assembly (9) and install Tooling (C) in order to hold the link assemblies in place.

  1. Install stoppers (10) in track pins (11). Install the stoppers 8 ± 4 mm (.310 ± .15 inch) below the surface of the track pin.

    Illustration 7g00557095

Note: The pin must be installed with the hole end on the same side of the track assembly for the entire length of the track assembly. The oil hole in the pin must be within 20 degrees of the vertical centerline of the pin bore. The oil hole must be close to the rail of the link. The pins have a mark on the end for the crosshole location. The pin must be installed with a minimum amount of force in order to get a maximum end play of 0.13 mm (.0050 inch) between the bushing and the thrust ring.

  1. Fasten a hoist to Tooling (D). Use Tooling (D) in order to install track pins (11) and push Tooling (C) out of the link assemblies. Install the track pins until the pins extend a maximum of 3.11 mm (.1220 inch) beyond both sides of the link assembly.

    Illustration 8g00557097

  1. Fill the track pins with 21 to 24 mL (.71 to .82 oz) of SAE 90W gear oil.

  1. Put oil on plug (12). Use Tooling (E). Install the plug until the plug is even with the end of the stopper.

  1. Put three track shoes (13) into position. Put SAE 30W oil on the bolt threads, the shaft, and the washer face. Install the bolts that hold the track shoes in place. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 170 ± 40 N·m (120 ± 30 lb ft). Tighten the bolts for an additional 120 ± 5 degrees.

End By: Install the track carrier rollers. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Track Carrier Roller - Install" for the machine that is being serviced.
