Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement. Personnel can be injured during the steering check. To help prevent possible personal injury, keep all personnel away from the machine or in clear view of the operator when the machine is in operation during steering checks.

Before performing any operational checks, read and understand the procedures in Troubleshooting, "Machine Preparation for Troubleshooting" and Troubleshooting, "Visual Inspection".

Steering Time

Note: Measuring the steering time will determine if there is a reason to check the steering system.

Reference: Refer to Testing and Adjusting, RENR6072, "Steering Time - Check" for the correct procedure.

Refer to Table 1 for the correct cycle times.

Steering Turns

Note: Measuring the steering turns will determine if there is a reason to check the steering system.

1. Move the machine to a smooth, horizontal location. Move the machine away from other operating machines and away from personnel.

2. Place the direction control switch (1) in the NEUTRAL position.

3. Engage the parking brake (2) .

4. Raise the attachments slightly off the ground.

5. Run the engine at high idle.

6. Turn the machine to the left until the stop.

7. Turn the machine fully to the right. Record the number of turns by the steering wheel from one stop to the other stop.

8. Turn the machine fully to the left. Record the number of turns by the steering wheel from one stop to the other stop. The number of turns by the steering wheel from one stop to the other stop is 4.5 turns to 5.0 turns. If the number of turns is higher, refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Steering System Troubleshooting".
