Be sure the steering frame lock is in the stored position.
Fasten the seat belt before testing the steering and implement lockout systems.
Steering Mechanical Lockout
- Park the machine on a level surface.
- Start the engine and raise the bucket slightly.
- Depress the service brake pedal to apply the service brakes. Disengage the parking brake.
- Release the service brakes.
- With steering and transmission lock lever (1) in the LOCKED position (as shown), attempt to steer the machine in a left or right direction. The machine should not move.

- Move transmission direction control (2) to either the FORWARD position or the REVERSE position. The transmission should not engage.
- Engage the parking brake. Lower the bucket to the ground and stop the engine

If the machine moved while testing the steering mechanical lockout system, contact your Caterpillar dealer. Have the dealer inspect and repair the steering mechanical lockout before returning the machine to operation. |
Implement and Steering Hydraulic Lockout
- Park the machine on a level surface.
- Start the engine and raise the bucket slightly.
- Depress the service brake pedal to apply the service brakes. Disengage the parking brake.
- Release the service brakes.
- Move the steering and transmission lock lever to the UNLOCKED position.
- Open the operator station door approximately 200 mm (7.9 inch) and attempt to steer the machine in a right turn direction only. The machine should not move.
Personal injury or death from crushing can result if the machine turns towards the operator's station door (left turn) with the door open. Keep clear of the operator's station door and check the implement and steering lockout operation using a right turn only. |
- Move the joystick control lever to all lever positions. The bucket should not move.
- Close the operator station door.
- Engage the parking brake. Lower the bucket to the ground and stop the engine.
