Usage:
Introduction
The 6I2539 Installation Sleeve is used to protect the magneto lip seal as it is being installed onto the magneto shaft.
Caterpillar's service replacement seal was changed from a rubber lip type seal to a Teflon® lip seal to be compatible with Altronic's original equipment seal.
The installation sleeve is used on all Spark Ignited engines using Altronic III Magnetos.
Also, the flange assembly for each Altronic III Magneto group was changed to include Altronic's service repair seal.
NOTE: Altronic's service repair seal is offset from the original equipment seal to allow for the Teflon® to seal on a different portion of the magneto shaft.
NOTICE |
---|
The seal and flange MUST be installed onto the magneto shaft using a 6I2539 Installation Sleeve. Failure to do so can damage the seal and allow engine oil into the magneto. |
Reference: Due to the many engine arrangements available:
Use the appropriate Service Manual and/or Module Systems Operation Testing & Adjusting, for disassembly/assembly and adjustment procedures.
Use the appropriate Parts Manual, for parts location.
Do not perform any procedure, outlined in this Special Instruction, or order any parts until you have read and understood the information contained within.

NOTICE |
---|
The specific Service Manual Service Manual Module and/or Systems Operation Testing & Adjusting, MUST be used for the disassembly/assembly and adjustment procedures. Failure to do so may affect the magneto and engine timing. |
1. Remove coupling (1) and flange assembly (2).
NOTE: The original flange is not marked with a part number. The specific Parts Manual MUST be used for part number verification.
The above drawing is for reference only. The actual magneto and its related components may very.
2. Install 3E6716 Seal (3) (interference fit) into flange (2).
3. Install 6I2539 Installation Sleeve (4) onto magneto shaft (5). (The sleeve slides loosely onto the magneto shaft).
The installation sleeve will be used as a guide to install the flange assembly (seal and flange) onto magneto shaft.
4. With Installation Sleeve in place, slowly slide flange assembly (2) towards magneto until the flange is flush against the magneto.
5. Install machine screws and tighten to the recommended torque.
The above drawing is for reference only. The actual magneto and its related components may very.
6. The protruding end of 6I2539 Installation Sleeve (4) will now be visible and can be removed.
7. Install coupling (1) onto magneto shaft and drive pin through coupling to secure to magneto shaft.
