Usage:
Introduction
Side view(s) of fuel transfer pump to show Piston Check Valve, Outlet Check Valve and Inlet Check Valve: Two 6I3185 Spacers replace two original 9X4628 Seals and one 8L2746 Seal replaces original 9X4628 Seal (at locations shown).
Two new parts, 6I3185 Spacer and 8L2746 Seal, replace the original 9X4628 Seals used in the fuel transfer pump.
Both the seal and the spacer feature a material design change to improve service life.
NOTE: The new parts are dimensionally the same as the original parts but can be identified by color:

Disassemble Fuel Transfer Pump
1. Remove connector (1) and O-ring seal (not shown). Remove connector (2) and O-ring seal (not shown).
2. Remove spring (3), valve (4) and 9X4628 Seal (not shown).
Cover (5) is under spring pressure. To prevent personal injury, carefully remove bolts (6) to release the spring pressure. |
3. Remove, carefully, bolts (6), cover (5), 9X4628 Seal and spring (not shown).
4. Remove valve (7) and 9X4628 Seal (not shown).
Assemble Fuel Transfer Pump With 6I3185 Spacers and 8L2746 Seal
1. Install 6I3185 Spacer (8), valve (7) and plate (9) into piston (10).
2. Install piston (10) and spring (11) into bore. Install 8L2746 seal into the bore that is to the right of the bore where piston (10) is installed.
3. Lubricate 3P1979 Seal (12) with clean diesel fuel and install into seal groove in cover (5).
4. Position cover (5) over spring (13) and install bolts (not shown) through cover (5) into pump housing (14).
NOTE: Cover (5) is installed under spring (13) pressure. Push cover (5) down and turn bolts (not shown) evenly until cover (5) seats against pump housing (14).
5. Install 6I3185 Spacer (15) into pump housing (14) bore.
6. Install valve (4) and spring (13) into pump housing (14) bore.
7. Lubricate, with clean diesel fuel, and install O-ring seals (not shown).
8. Install connectors (1) and (2) into pump housing (14).
