Introduction
This instruction provides the necessary information required to properly orient the mounting flange, air intake port, and air exhaust port on 4W0695 (standard rotation - ccw) and 4W0697 (reverse rotation - cw) Air Start Motors. These two air start motors will be the only two air starters available for the 3600 Family of engines.
In-Line Engine with one starter, right side mounting.
These air starters may be used for either left hand or right hand mounting on the 3606 and 3608 Engines.
Vee-Engine with two starters, left side mounting.
The 3612 and 3616 Engines require two air start motors mounted on the left side of the engine.

Drive Housing Orientation
The drive housing (mounting flange) may be oriented in any of sixteen radial positions in relation to the gear case.
(1) Drive Housing Mounting Flange. (2) Drive Housing Cap Screws.
To orient the drive housing relative to the gear case, remove the eight drive housing cap screws (2) and rotate the drive housing (1) to the required position.
NOTE: Do Not separate the drive housing from the gear case.
Install the drive housing cap screws (2) and tighten the screws to 38 N·m (28 lb ft).
Intake Port And Exhaust Port Orientation
The intake port and exhaust port can be oriented for proper location of hose installation, and may be oriented in any of four positions depending on left hand or right hand mounting requirements.
(3) Intake Port. (4) Exhaust Port. (5) Motor Housing Cap Screws.
To orient the intake port (3) and/or exhaust port (4) of the air starter, remove the four motor housing cap screws (5). Rotate the motor housing and/or motor housing cover to the proper location.
NOTE: Do Not separate these members from each other or from the gear case.
Install the motor housing cover cap screws (5) and alternately tighten them to 82 N·m (60 lb ft).
