Introduction

This publication gives the information needed to install the specific flexible mounting group for the generator set engines given above.

This publication also includes the information needed for the installation of a radiator mounting group for those 3500 Family Engines that have an engine mounted radiator. Refer to the charts that follow.

Do not perform any procedure, outlined in this publication, or order any parts until you read and understand the information contained within.

Installation of Engine Flexible Mounting Group - Engines With or Without a Mounted Radiator

NOTE: The engine will set about as level as the mounting surface, so the more level the mounting surface, the easier it will be to level the engine.

1. Lift the engine and generator set high enough to permit installation of the mount assemblies from the mounting group. A minimum of 140 mm (5.5") clearance is needed for installation of the mount assemblies.

NOTE: In the 5N8877 Engine Mounting Group, all three springs in each mount assembly are a gold color. In each 8N9567 and 8N9570 Engine Mounting Group, the center spring is blue in color, while each outer spring is a gold color. The only difference between an 8N9567 Mounting Group and an 8N9570 Mounting Group is the quantity of mount assemblies in each group.

2. Put sufficient support under the mounting rails of the engine and generator set, so there is support in no less than eight locations. Make sure the supports do not interfere with the locations where the mount assemblies are to be installed.

Refer to the topic entitled Mounting Schematics and Installation Dimensions in this publication, for the installation location of the mount assemblies, according to engine and generator set model.

3. Before installing a mount assembly, use tape or tie some string around it, on both sides of bolt (1). This is to hold the mount assembly together during the installation procedure.

Remove bolt (1) with locknut (2) from mount assembly (3).

4. Install a 5P7197 Washer (4) on bolt (1) as shown, then insert the bolt through the mounting hole in the bottom of frame rail (5).

5. Put mount assembly (3) under bolt (1) in frame rail (5). Thread bolt (1) into the mount assembly. Make sure bolt (1) does not extend through the top threaded plate of the mount assembly.

Use this procedure to install each of the mount assemblies needed for the engine and generator set.

6. Lift the engine and generator set and remove the support material that was installed earlier.

7. Lower the engine and generator set into position until there is a slight load on the mount assemblies.

Remove the tape or string from around each mount assembly. Position each mount assembly directly under the frame rail, then lower the complete unit.

8. Use bolt (1) to adjust the mount assembly so dimension (X) is approximately 6.35 mm (0.25"). After the adjustment is completed, tighten locknut (2). Use this procedure to adjust each mount assembly.

Mounting Schematics and Installation Dimensions

NOTE: In the information that follows, location (A) indicates the rear face of the flywheel housing for D398B and D399 engines. For 3500 Family Engines, location (A) indicates the rear face of the cylinder block (refer to TD7107).

Location (B) indicates the distance between the centerlines of the mounting rails. All other letter designations, indicated as (C), (D), (E) and (F), identify the location where a mount assembly is to be installed according to the dimensions given in the charts. These dimensions are to be used for mount assembly installation on both sides of the engine and generator set.

Installation of 9Y8234 Radiator Flexible Mounting Group - 3500 Family Generator Set Engines (Except for Marine Generator Set Engines)

Installation of the 9Y8234 Radiator Flexible Mounting Group is required when generator set vibration isolators are installed with engine mounted 46/CV and/or 72/25 radiators. This will provide better support to the radiator, the front mounting rails and the engine in general.

1. Dimension (G) is the distance from the rear face of the cylinder block, location (A), to the center of the mounting location on the radiator mounting rails.
2. Dimension (H) is the distance from the centerline of the engine to the centerline of a radiator mounting rail.
3. Dimension (J) is the distance from center-to-center of the radiator mounting rails.

Installation Location for Engine and Generator Set Flexible Mounts for 3500 Family Engines Equipped with an Engine Mounted Radiator - Marine Generator Set Engines

1. Before installing each mount assembly (6), use tape or tie some string around the mount assembly to hold it together during the installation procedure.

2. Use two 9F9522 Bolts (8) with 5P8249 Washers to fasten a 7W7547 Block (10) to each mount assembly (6). Remove the tape or string from around each mount assembly. Tighten the bolts.

Use two 2H3757 Bolts (9) with 5P8249 Washers to fasten each 7W7547 Block (10), with its attached mount assembly (6), to a specific location under the engine and generator set mounting rail.

3. Use this procedure to install all of the mount assemblies needed for the engine and generator set. Refer to the illustrations that follow for mount assembly installation locations according to engine model.

4. Lift the engine and generator set and remove the support material that was installed earlier.

5. Lower the engine and generator set into position until there is a slight load on the mount assemblies.

6. Use adjustment nuts (11) above the springs, to adjust the mount assembly so dimension (K) is approximately 184.2 mm (7.25"). Use this procedure to adjust each mount assembly. After the adjustment procedure for all mount assemblies is completed, tighten locknuts (2).

For radiator installation, refer to the topic entitled Installation of 9Y8235 Radiator Flexible Mounting Group - 3500 Family Marine Generator Set Engines in this publication.

Installation of 9Y8235 Radiator Flexible Mounting Group - 3500 Family Marine Generator Set Engines

Installation of the radiator flexible mounting group is required to give better support to the radiator, the front mounting rails and the engine in general.
