Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |

Failure to correctly fill the hydraulic tank after an oil change may cause component damage. |
Note: When proper S·O·S procedures are followed, the interval for "Fan Drive Tank Oil - Change" can be increased to 4000 service hours or 2 years.

Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Access Doors and Covers" for the location of the service points.
Filler cap (2) is located on top of the hydraulic tank for the fan drive. The hydraulic tank for the fan drive is located on the frame near the right front of the engine.
Note: The machine must meet the following conditions before you change the hydraulic tank oil.
- The machine must be level.
- The parking brake must be applied.
- The hydraulic oil must be warm.
- The transmission control must be in NEUTRAL.
- The body must be lowered.
- Park the machine on level ground. Shut off the engine.
- Depress the button on breaker relief valve (1) before you remove hydraulic oil filler cap (2). This will release any pressure from the tank. You should clean the cap before you remove the cap. Turn the cap counterclockwise in order to remove the cap.
- Remove drain plug (5) which is located at the bottom of the hydraulic tank for the fan drive.
- Open drain valve (4). Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.
- Replace the oil filter for the fan drive. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fan Drive Oil Filter - Replace" for the correct procedure.
- Close the drain valve. Clean the drain plug. Install the drain plug.
- A screen is located under oil filler cap (2). Remove oil filler cap (2). Remove the screen.
- Wash the screen in clean, nonflammable solvent. Inspect the screen for damage. Replace the screen if the screen is damaged.
- Install the screen.
- Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities". Open the access panel in order to view sight gauge (3). Fill the tank with oil to the "FULL COLD" mark on sight gauge (3). Move the engine shutdown switch to the OFF position. This will prevent the engine from starting when you crank the engine. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Shutdown Switch" for more information.
- Purge the air from the fan drive pump and from the fan drive motors.
- Crank the engine for approximately 15 seconds. The oil level will decrease as the oil fills the lines of the fan drive hydraulic system. Add oil in order to raise the oil level to the "FULL COLD" mark on sight gauge (3). Crank the engine for an additional 15 seconds.
- Repeat Step 10 through Step 12 until the oil level stabilizes at the "FULL COLD" mark on sight gauge (3).
- Move the engine shutdown switch to the ON position and start the engine.
- Warm the oil for the fan drive system. If necessary, add more oil to the tank in order to raise the oil level to the "FULL WARM" mark on sight gauge (3).
- Stop the engine. Replace filler cap (2).
