Usage:
The 1P1784 Cylinder Repair Stand Group includes all components ready for assembly. The 1P2330 Cylinder Repair Tool Group includes all components except the base. The base must be fabricated according to information given in the FT883 Base Assembly drawings given on pages 15 and 16.
(1) Loosen clamping screws (1) on both V-blocks. Slide V-blocks (2) apart as far as possible to accommodate the cylinder and retighten the screws. Open cam locks (3) and install link chains (4) through tighteners (5) as shown. Install pins (6).
(2) Mount the hydraulic cylinder on the V-blocks with the oil ports on the lower side and the rod end toward end post (7). After the cylinder is drained, rotate the rod so the rod eye is level.
(3) The stand base also serves as an oil basin which is drained at (A).
(4) Place link chains (4) over the cylinder and into V-blocks (2). Insert pins (6) through the ends of the chains.
(5) Pull the other end of each link chain (4) through tighteners (5) and remove the slack.
(6) Rotate cam locks (3) to secure the link chains in the tighteners. Tighten screws (5).
(7) Roll the carriage to the end of the stand. Adjust the end post height with hand wheel (8) until the rod rests on plate (9).
(8) Install conical plate (10) with the appropriate screw (11) and nut (12) to anchor the rod to the end post. For rod eyes over 1.50"Ø (Ø38,1) use the 1.50"Ø (Ø38,1) screw (11) and nut (12) shown. For rod eyes 1.50"Ø (Ø38,1) and smaller use the 1.0"Ø (Ø25,4) screw and nut. End post (9) contains internal threads for each screw. Bottom the 1.50"Ø (Ø38,1) screw in its thread. Engage the 1.0"Ø (Ø25,4) screw at least 1.0" (25,4) in the end post. With the rod leveled, tighten nut (12). Remove the bolts (13).
(9) Tilt, suspension, and steering cylinders require FT649 Adapter (14) to secure the rod to the end post. (See the Tool Guide for fabrication details.)
(10) To completely separate the cylinder from the rod, connect a hydraulic power source to cylinder (16). Extend the power cylinder rod and install pin (17). For longer cylinders pull the retainer pin and extend the power cylinder for additional stroke. For final disassembly of ejector cylinders, connect the power cylinder to the other end of the V-block carriage.

NOTICE |
---|
The power cylinder has a capacity of 3000 PSI. If the 3S6224 Hydraulic Pump is used as a power source, set the pressure relief valve at 3000 PSI. Two FT948 Brackets (18) can be used to mount the 3S6224 Pump on the stand. (See page 5 for fabricating dimensions.) |
Dimensions For Fabricating FT948 Bracket
(12) Pull the cylinder until the piston bottoms against the cylinder head. When the head starts to separate from the cylinder, install jack (19) and strap (20) to support the rod. Proceed until cylinder and rod are fully separated.
(13) Remove the rod nut. Rod nuts with high torques require 1P850 Torque Multiplier (21) for removal and installation. Mount the assembled torque multiplier and FT838 Mounting Assembly (22) on the stand. The appropriate socket, 1P851 Spline Adapter (23), 1P852 Male Adapter and ratchet (24) are also required. Use the same tools with a 1P853 Ratchet Adapter and torque wrench to tighten the rod nut.
(14) When removing or installing rod nuts with extremely high torque requirements, use 2P8343 Torque Multiplier (25).
NOTE: Before rod nut removal or installation, lower the rod and piston assembly as far as possible to position (B).
NOTICE |
---|
To avoid damage to the bench during extremely high torque applications, rework end post plate (9). Remove the .50" (12,7) thick top plate and fabricate a 1.00" (25,4) thick plate (see fabricating dimensions above). Weld the new plate to end post (9) with a .50" (12,7) fillet weld. |
(15) Before assembly, inspect all parts and repair or replace as necessary. Raise or lower the jack to align the rod with the cylinder bore. On smaller pistons, use the 4S9458 Seal Tool Group to compress the piston rings. Cylinder assembly is in reverse order of disassembly.
