Usage:
Introduction
THE 6V4945 ROLLER BUFFER HAS BEEN DESIGNED TO ACT AS A PERIPHERAL COMPONENT IN THE MODEL "W" ROLLER/IDLER REBUILDING SEQUENCE.
AFTER THE BULK OF THE DIRT AND GRIT HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM A ROLLER THROUGH EITHER STEAM CLEANING OR HIGH PRESSURE JET SYSTEM, THE ROLLER BUFFER WILL ACCOMPLISH THE FINAL CLEANING OPERATION BEFORE IT GOES TO THE WELDING UNIT FOR REBUILDING.
Installation/Maintenance
Installation
The Roller Buffer is shipped completely assembled. After checking to be certain that the equipment was not damaged during shipment, locate the unit so that it fits into the repair shop's work flow system.
IN ORDER TO PUT THE ROLLER BUFFER INTO SERVICE:
1. Level the unit using the adjustment bolts on the legs.
2. Have a qualified electrician connect the proper electrical supply to the unit.
Maintenance
The Roller Buffer requires very little maintenance as long as it is not abused. However, it is necessary to:
1. Clean the dust out of the roller on a daily basis.
2. Replace the cleaning brushes as needed; normal wear should be approximately six months.
3. Replace the drive belt as needed.
4. Grease the roller bearing blocks every week.
NOTE: THE ILLUSTRATION SHOWS A POSSIBLE WORK FLOW SYSTEM WHICH INCLUDES THE END COLLAR PULLER, DIP TANK AND THE MODEL "W". YOU SHOULD PLACE YOUR MACHINE TO FIT YOUR PARTICULAR NEEDS.
Operational Instructions
Cleaning Crawler Tractor Rollers For Rebuilding
For the roller to be properly rebuilt, it should be thoroughly precleaned of dirt and rust particles on the critical areas such as the tread running surface and the flange areas, as well as the seal end of the end collars.
The first cleaning operation should be a steam cleaning process to remove the majority of the dirt from the critical areas of the roller. This procedure, followed by the use of the Roller Buffer, will minimize the chances of contamination to the seal area when the end collars are removed (by the End Collar Puller) for a visual inspection of the roller's seals.
After steam cleaning, the procedure for using the Roller Buffer is as follows:
1. Use an overhead crane and a lifting chain (with the hooks through the roller mounting holes in the end collar) to lower the assemblied tractor roller onto the (2) steel rollers in the bottom of the Roller Buffer cleaning well. Remove the lifting chain and any other foreign materials (tools, rags) from the unit.
2. With the power OFF, bring the hood down to a point of NEAR CONTACT with the roller. Turn the unit ON and let the FREE WEIGHT of the brush head make contact with the roller. Normally, a cleaning sequence of 30-60 seconds should be adequate to prepare the roller for the welding operation. If it is not, repeat the buffing operation.
NOTICE |
---|
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD THE OPERATOR FORCE THE HOOD (AND THEREFORE THE BRUSHES) DOWN ONTO THE ROLLER. THE BRUSHES WERE NOT DESIGNED FOR THAT TYPE OF APPLICATION AND THEY WILL CRIMP AND BE DESTROYED. |
3. TURN OFF THE BUFFER BEFORE lifting the hood. Remove the roller from the unit with the lifting chain and place it on the End Collar Puller for seal and bushing inspection prior to welding.
