Machine Preheater - Remove and Install

Usage:

570B CKG

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Prepare the machine for disassembly and assembly procedures. For additional information, refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Preparation for Disassembly".

Note: Put identification on all lines, hoses, wires, and tubes for installation purposes. Use caps and plugs on all lines, hoses, and tubes in order to prevent fluid loss or contamination of the systems.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


------ WARNING! ------

At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.

Steam can cause personal injury.

Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure.

Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.

  1. Lower the bottom guard. For additional information, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Bottom Guard Lowering".

  1. Drain the engine coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container. The capacity of the cooling system is approximately 50 L (13 US gal). Refer toOperation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change" or Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (DEAC) - Change".

  1. Disconnect hoses (1) that are located underneath the machine preheater.

  1. Disconnect fuel line (2) .

  1. Disconnect hose (3) .

  1. Disconnect harness assemblies (4) .

  1. Disconnect exhaust tube (5) .

  1. Remove bolts (7) which hold machine preheater (6) in place. Remove machine preheater (6) .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the machine preheater (6). Install bolts (7) which hold the machine preheater in place.

  1. Connect exhaust tube (5) .

  1. Connect harness assemblies (4) .

  1. Connect hose (3) .

  1. Connect fuel line (2) .

  1. Connect hoses (1) that are located underneath the machine preheater.

  1. Refill the cooling system. The capacity of the cooling system is approximately 50 L (13 US gal). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change" or Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (DEAC) - Change".

  1. Raise the bottom guard. For additional information, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Bottom Guard Lowering".
