Description of Change: A new plug is used in the pinion hub of the differential. The new plug prevents the O-ring seal from being pinched. The former plug used the O-ring seal to keep out the transmission lubrication oil. The seal also helped to retain the plug. The new plug uses a tapered section next to the hex head to retain the plug in the pinion hub. The torque value that is used to tighten the plug has not changed. 4C-9507 Retaining Compound is still applied to the threads in order to help retain the plug. The compound can be applied to either the thread in the pinion hub or to the threads on the plug.
Adaptable To: The new 215-9581 Plug is a direct replacement for the former 9S-7583 Plug. The new 215-9581 Plug is effective with 797 (S/N: 5YW263) and adaptable to all earlier machines.
