PM-465 Cold Planer Caterpillar

Shipping the Machine

Usage:

PM-465 5ZS

------ WARNING! ------

Be alert while loading the machine.

You must react instantly to depress one of the machine/engine remote stop switches to avoid a runaway machine.

Personal injury or death could result from a runaway machine.

Brace yourself for a quick stop anytime one of the machine/engine remote stop switches is depressed with the machine moving.

Personal injury or death could result from a sudden stop of the machine.

----------------------

Investigate the travel route for overpass clearances. Make sure that there is adequate clearance for the machine that is being transported.

Remove ice, snow, or other slippery material from the loading dock and from the truck bed before you load the machine onto the transport machine. Removing ice, snow, or other slippery material will help to prevent the machine from slipping in transit.

Note: Obey all laws that govern the characteristics of a load (height, weight, width, and length). Observe all regulations that govern wide loads.

When you move the machine to a colder climate, make sure that the cooling system has the proper antifreeze.

The machine can be transported as a 2500 mm (8.2 ft) load by swinging the sensors for elevation and the supports to the front of the machine. Fold in the mirrors.

  1. Place blocks under the trailer wheels or under the rail car wheels before loading. This is shown in figure 1.

  1. Engage the parking brake control.

  1. Start the engine. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Starting" for more information on starting the engine. Allow the engine to run for at least five minutes in order to warm the hydraulic system.

  1. To clear all obstacles, use switches (1), (2) and (3) to raise the machine.

  1. Release the parking brake control.

  1. Select the desired direction of travel with the propel lever. Use the propel lever to carefully move the machine onto the trailer. Keep the mainframe as low as possible.

  1. Move the propel lever to NEUTRAL, after the machine is positioned.

  1. Engage the parking brake control.

Note: Place a plank under the rotor. The plank prevents damage to the rotor bits.

  1. Lower the mainframe evenly until the rotor is resting on the bed of the trailer or rail car. The machine needs to be setting as low as possible.

  1. Install the shipping supports on the second stage conveyor. Install blocking under the feet of the shipping supports.

    Note: Keep the machine level.

  1. Lower the conveyor onto the supports. Tie the conveyor downward.

  1. Shut the engine off. Remove the key.

  1. Turn the disconnect switch to OFF. Remove the key.

  1. Secure the machine. Use tie-downs.

  1. Cover the opening for the engine exhaust.

Unloading the Machine

  1. Inspect the machine for damage. Note any damage on the bill of lading.

  1. Remove the tie-downs.

  1. Turn on the battery disconnect switch.

  1. Check all of the remote stop switches in order to ensure that the switches are pulled OUT. There are a total of seven switches.

  1. All switches at the operator's console must be OFF.

  1. Start the engine. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Starting" for more information on starting the engine. Allow the engine to run for at least five minutes in order to warm the hydraulic system.

  1. Use switches (1), (2) and (3) to raise the machine. Remove the blocking from the supports for the conveyor. Remove the plank.

Note: Raise the machine in order to allow moving the machine without permitting the cutter to hit the deck of the trailer. Do not raise the machine to the maximum height.

  1. Release the parking brake.

  1. Slowly move the propel lever. In order to move the machine forward, move the propel lever forward. In order to move the machine backward, move the propel lever backward.

  1. Once the machine is unloaded, put the propel lever back to the NEUTRAL position. This stops the machine movement. Apply the parking brake.

  1. Permit the engine to run for a few minutes at low idle and shut the engine off. Remove the key. Install covers for protection against vandalism. Turn the battery disconnect switch key to the OFF position.
