Lubrication Specification for the Saw Chain
Note: Requirements for biodegradable oil will vary with local regulations. Consult the nearest Caterpillar dealer for additional information.
Select a lubricant that is required for your expected ambient temperature. The lubricant should be formulated to provide good lubricity. Good lubricity eliminates sticking of moving parts and the buildup of dirt. The lubricant should be resistant to oxidation.
The lubricant must be tacky and adhesive. This will allow the oil to stay on the saw chain. Otherwise, oil will not stay on the saw chain when you operate the saw chain.
Select a lubricant with the following characteristics for your expected ambient temperature.
- Good lubricity and resistance to oxidation
- High viscosity index
- Tacky
- Adhesive
