Steering and Charge Pump (1) Drive gear for the charge pump (2) Drive gear for the steering pump (3) Driven gear for the steering pump (4) Driven gear for the charge pump |
The gear pump is a tandem pump. The gear pump is mounted to the accessory drive on the engine. The pump supplies oil to the steering system and to the wheel tilt system. The pump provides oil for the offset system. The pump provides charge oil for the propel circuit and for the vibratory circuit.
When the engine is operating, the pump drive gear (1) rotates in a clockwise direction. Drive gear (1) and gear (2) rotate at the same speed. The teeth on drive gear (1) mesh with the teeth on driven gear (3). As the gears (1) and (3) rotate, oil is trapped in the roots of the gear teeth. The trapped oil is drawn from the hydraulic tank through the pump inlet. As the gear teeth (1) and (3) mesh, the trapped oil is deposited in the outlet port of the pump. Gears (1) and (3) pump oil through the outlet port to the offset valve and to the charge oil filter.
The gears (2) and (4) function similarly. Gears (2) and (4) pump oil to the steering control unit.
