Start By:

  1. Remove the pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Pump Group Piston (Brake) - Remove ".

Note: The weight of the pump is 21 kg (45 lb).

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Remove four bolts (2) and valve (3) from pump housing (1).

  2. Remove O-ring seals (4) from valve (3).

  3. Remove plug (5) from valve assembly (3).

  4. Remove stem (6), spring retainer (7), spring (8) and spring (9) from valve (3) and from plug (5).

  5. Disassemble plug (5), as follows:

    1. Remove seal (10) and seat (11) from plug (5).

    2. Remove cap (16) and seal (15) from adjuster screw (14).

    3. Remove adjuster screw (14), nut (13), and seal (12) from plug (5).

  6. Remove plug (17) from valve (3).

  7. Remove stem (18), spring retainer (19), springs (20) and (21), and seat (22) from valve (3) and from plug (17).

  8. Disassemble plug (17), as follows:

    1. Remove O-ring seal (23) from plug (17).

    2. Remove cap (28) and seal (27) from adjuster screw (26).

    3. Remove adjuster screw (26), nut (25), and seal (24) from plug (17).

  9. Remove orifice (29) from valve (3).

    Note: Light spring pressure is present beneath the head assembly.

  11. Carefully remove bolts (31) from head assembly (32) and from pump housing (1).

  17. Remove plunger assembly (42) and guide (43) from pump housing assembly (1).

  18. Remove spring (44) from plunger (42).

  19. Remove O-ring seal (45) and bearing cone (46) from pump housing assembly (1).

  20. Remove adjustment spacer (47) from the shaft and from pump housing assembly (1).

  21. Carefully remove the entire rotating group (48) from pump housing assembly (1).

  22. Position rotating group (48) on blocks, as shown.

  23. Remove shaft assembly (49) from the rotating group.

  24. Use Tooling (B) and a press to remove bearing cone (50) from shaft (49).

  28. Remove bearing (54) from barrel assembly (55).

  29. Turn barrel assembly (55) upright and position the barrel assembly in a press.

  30. Use Tooling (A) and tooling (C) to compress and reposition the hidden spring and retaining ring (56) in barrel assembly (55).

  31. Remove retaining ring (56), spring (59), spacer (58) and pins (57) from barrel (55).
