980G Wheel Loader Braking System Caterpillar

Monitoring System (Braking Functions)

Usage:

980G 2KR
This machine is equipped with the Caterpillar Monitoring System. The Caterpillar Monitoring System consists of the following indicators: an action alarm, a master action light, a monitoring panel with eight alert indicators for the numerous machine systems, a tachometer and a gauge display.

The Caterpillar Monitoring System continuously monitors the numerous machine systems. The alert indicators show any abnormal condition of the machine.

Warning Categories

The monitoring system provides three warning categories. The first category requires only operator awareness. The second category needs operator response. The third category requires immediate shutdown of the machine.

Warning Category 1

For the brake system, when a Warning Category 1 occurs, the monitoring system causes an alert indicator to turn ON. Parking brake indicator (1) will flash when the operator starts the engine.

A Warning Category 1 will occur in the following situation:

  • The parking brake is in the engaged position, and the transmission is in the NEUTRAL position.

The parking brake indicator (1) will turn OFF when the parking brake is moved to the DISENGAGED position.

Warning Category 2

For the brake system, when a Warning Category 2 occurs, the monitoring system causes one or more alert indicators to turn ON. A Warning Category 2 also causes master action light (3) to flash.

A Warning Category 2 will occur in the following situation:

  • The hydraulic oil temperature reaches an excessive level in the hydraulic system.

A Warning Category 2 needs operator response to the problem. A change in the machine operation is required in order to reduce excessive temperature.

Warning Category 3

For the brake system, when a Warning Category 3 occurs, the monitoring system causes one or more alert indicators to turn ON. The monitoring system also causes master action light (3) to flash. This causes brake oil pressure indicator (2) for the brake system to turn ON. The action alarm also sounds.

A Warning Category 3 will occur when the following situations arise:

  • There is a loss of brake oil pressure in the system.

  • The machine is in operation and the parking brake becomes engaged.

  • The operator selects a FORWARD or REVERSE position while the engine is running and the parking brake is engaged.

When a Warning Category 3 occurs during machine operation, stop the machine immediately and engage the parking brake. Stop the engine. Investigate the cause of the warning before returning the machine to service.

Note: Do NOT operate the machine until the cause of the warning has been corrected.
