NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Install coupling hub (24) onto the spline of the piston pump.

  1. The face of hub (24) must be installed to a dimension of 65.3 ± 2 mm (2.6 ± 0.08 inch) from the face of the piston pump. This dimension is shown in the graphic above as dimension (X) .

  1. Apply 4C-4030 Thread Lock Compound or 9S-3263 Thread Lock Compound to the threads of allen head screw (23). Tighten allen head screw (23) to a torque of 55 ± 5 N·m (41 ± 4 lb ft).

  1. Install tube (22) .

  1. Install nylon flange (21) .

  1. Install eight bolts (20). Tighten the bolts.

  1. Install adapter plate (19) .

  1. Install clip (18), washers, and twelve bolts (17) to the adapter plate.

    Note: The coupling hub must slide into the nylon flange for proper installation.

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device to the piston pump. Weight of the piston pump is 59 kg (130 lb). Slide the piston pump toward the rear of the machine for installation.

  1. Use Tooling (A) to install the washers and bolts (16) and (15). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 136 N·m (100 lb ft).

  1. Connect hoses (9), (10), (11), (12), (13), and (14) to the left side of the piston pump.

  1. Connect hoses (1), (2), (3), (4), (5), (6), (7), and (8) to the right side of the piston pump.

End By:

  1. Install the piston pump only for the 228 Skid Steer Loader. Refer to Disassembly and AssemblyRENR2887, "Piston Pump (Work Tool) - Install".
  2. Install the gear pump only for the 216 and 226 Skid Steer Loaders. Refer to Disassembly and AssemblyRENR2862, "Gear Pump - Install".
  3. Install the hydraulic tank. Refer to Disassembly and AssemblyRENR2887, "Hydraulic Tank - Install".
  4. Install the cab. Refer to Disassembly and AssemblyRENR2862, "Cab - Install".
