Steering System Check
- Raise the machine so that both belts are 20 to 30 cm (8 to 12 inch) off the ground.
- Mark each drive wheel so the revolutions can be counted.
- Start the engine. Run the engine at high idle.
- Warm the oil to 60°C (140°F). At least two segments should be visible on the bargraph for hydraulic oil temperature.
- Check the charge oil pressure. Make sure that the pressure is 2470 ± 170 kPa (358 ± 25 psi). Refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, "Steering System Charge Oil Pressure Test".
- Engage the parking brake.
- Move the transmission control lever to the NEUTRAL position.
- Rotate the steering wheel to the FULL RIGHT TURN position.
- Hold the steering wheel in this position.
- Count the number of revolutions of each drive wheel in one minute.
- The difference in the revolutions should be between 30 and 34 revolutions.
- Check the regulated pressure in the steering control.
- The pressure should be between 1975 kPa (285 psi) and 350 kPa (50 psi). Refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, "Steering Control Pilot Oil Pressure Test".
- Check the steering pump oil pressure.
- The pressure reading should be less than 10000 kPa (1450 psi). Refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, "Steering Pump High Pressure Cutoff Pressure Test" for the locations of the pressure taps.
- Rotate the steering wheel to the FULL LEFT TURN position.
- Hold the steering wheel in this position.
- Repeat Steps 10 through 12.
