Usage:

45 3BK

Inspect Belt Tension

Illustration 1g00318987

  1. Raise the hood in order to access the alternator belt.

Note: See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Compartment Hood - Raise/Lower".

  1. Inspect the condition of the belt. Replace any belt that is excessively worn.

  1. In order to check the belt tension, apply 110 N (25 lb) of force midway between the pulleys. Correctly adjusted belts will deflect 13 to 19 mm (.5 to .75 inch).

  1. If the belt deflection is not correct, adjust the belt.

Adjust Belt Tension

Illustration 2g00491272

  1. Loosen pivot bolt (1) and adjustment bolt (2) .

  1. Rotate the alternator in order to adjust belt tension. Use a suitable pry bar at the end of the alternator with the pulley in order to rotate the alternator.

  1. Maintain tension on the belt while you tighten adjustment bolt (2). Then, tighten pivot bolt (1) .

  1. Measure the belt tension. If the belt deflection is not correct, repeat this procedure.

  1. Close the hood.
