Note: Make sure that the length of the drawbar is set to the proper distance. See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Drawbar Adjustment". Make sure that the lock assemblies are set in order to prevent swing.
Note: On three-point hitch implements, set the sway blocks to the FORWARD position. This prevents the three-point hitch side sway.
- Stop the engine. Lower all implements. Make sure that the PTO is stopped.
- Unscrew cover (1). Store the cover.

- Put the PTO shield in the LEVEL position. See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "PTO Shield Adjustment".
- Make sure that the PTO cannot experience the following conditions:
- The PTO shaft should not become extended too far.
- The PTO shaft should not bottom out.
- The PTO shaft should not reach an excessive angle while you operate the machine.
Note: A PTO shaft is extended too far when the shaft is within 152 mm (6 inch) of uncoupling.
Note: A PTO shaft bottoms out when the drive shaft is within 25.4 mm (1 inch) of the collapsed length of the drive shaft.
- The PTO shaft should not become extended too far.
NOTICE |
---|
After installing a PTO drive shaft, check the clearance between the drive shaft and the top of the drawbar clevis and the drawbar pin. Clearance must be sufficient to prevent contact with the drawbar clevis during machine operation. If necessary, remove the clevis and modify the drawbar-mounted implement as necessary to reattach properly to the drawbar. Certain implements will require that the clevis be removed in order to use the PTO. |
Refer to the manufacturer's recommendations for the correct installed length and angle of operation for the PTO shaft.
Note: After you detach PTO implements, make sure that you reinstall the cover for the PTO shaft.
