Lifting and Tying Down the Machine

Usage:

A machine may shift if improper procedures or equipment are used for lifting and tying down for transport. Ensure that proper equipment and procedures are used for lifting and tying machines down for transport. If a machine shifts it could cause personal injury or death.

  1. The weights and instructions that are specified below relate to the machines that are manufactured by Caterpillar Inc.

    • The weight of the D250E Series II is 21600 kg (47620 lb).

    • The weight of the D300E Series II is 22450 kg (49494 lb).

  1. Use proper rated cables, proper rated slings and proper rated lifting beams for lifting the machine. The lifting beam must be wide enough to prevent contact with the machine.

  1. Position the crane in order to lift the machine in a level plane. Ensure that the parking brake is fully engaged. Lower the dump body and stop the engine. Suitable lifting points are provided on the machine.

  1. Two holes (1) are positioned at the rear of the dump body. Do not use the forward pair of lifting holes (2) in the dump body. These holes are provided in order to enable the dump body to be lifted off the machine.

  1. Two brackets are positioned on the front frame of the machine.

  1. Attach lifting plates (2) to the two brackets on the front frame. The part numbers for the lifting plates can be found in the Parts Manual, SEBP2608 for the D250E Series II and in Parts Manual, SEBP2609 for the D300E Series II.

  1. Before the machine is lifted, install the steering frame locks on the steering cylinders.

  1. Each machine is equipped with holes for tie-downs.

  1. One hole is positioned at the rear of the machine.

  1. Two holes are positioned at the center of the machine.

  1. Two holes are positioned at the front of the machine.

Attach the tie-downs at several locations. Place blocks around the front wheels and around the rear wheels.

Obey all of the laws that govern the actual load's weight, the actual load's width, and the actual load's length.

Consult your Caterpillar dealer for shipping instructions for your machine. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Shipping the Machine".
