DASA 280 Measuring and Control System Caterpillar

Length Sensor - Inspect

Usage:

HH45 2JZ
The length sensor must be inspected daily. The inspection procedure must be performed in order to ensure that the lengths of the logs are measured correctly. The length inspection chart in Illustration 3 can be used for the inspection. Use the following procedure to perform the inspection.

  1. In the operating mode, process a tree. Cut the logs in the tree to various lengths. Lay the logs in order for easy identification.

Note: Cut at least three logs for inspection on each work day.

  1. Press "8" in order to view the lengths of the cut logs. A printout of the list can be made by pressing "9".

  1. Measure the length of each log. Create a table that is similar to Table 1 of the "SHOWED LENGTHS" on the display screen and the "MEASURED LENGTHS". Subtract the "SHOWED LENGTH" from the "MEASURED LENGTH" for each log. Enter the difference in the table.

    Table 1
Log Number     Measured Length     Showed Length     Difference
    Nr 1     553 cm     550 cm     +3 cm
    Nr 2     431 cm     430 cm     +1 cm
    Nr 3     279 cm     280 cm     0 cm
    Nr 4     248 cm     250 cm     -2 cm

    (1) "0 " line. (2) Log 4. (3) Log 3. (4) Log 2. (5) Log 1.

  1. For each log, follow the "0" line until the value for the "SHOWED LENGTH" is reached. Mark the "DIFFERENCE" from Table 1 on the centimeter line. Refer to Illustration 1.

    Completed Length Inspection Chart (Example)

    (6) Calibration point.

  1. When a minimum of 20 logs have been marked on the chart, draw a straight line on the chart. Start drawing the line at point "0". Extend the line between the middle of the other points. If the drawn line does not fall on the "0" line, the length sensor must be calibrated.

Point (6) will be used in the calibration procedure. "550" will be entered after "SHOWED LENGTH". "552" will be entered for the "MEASURED LENGTH".

Note: 520 cm (205 inch) is the minimum value that should be entered after the "SHOWED LENGTH".

Reference: For more information on the calibration procedure, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7182, "Setting Module".
