Start By:
- Tilt the cab. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, SENR9124, "Cab - Tilt".
At operating temperature, the hydraulic tank is hot and under pressure. Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin. Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the filler cap slowly in order to relieve pressure. |
NOTICE |
---|
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
Note: Turn off the engine. Apply the foot brake several times in order to relieve the pressure in the brake system.
- Put identification marks on all lines, hoses, wires and tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses and tubes. This helps prevent fluid loss and contamination of the oil system.

Illustration 5 g00447329 - Attach link brackets (A) and the appropriate lifting strap to the hydraulic tank, as shown. Without hydraulic fluid, the weight of the hydraulic tank is approximately
135 kg (297 lb) . With hydraulic fluid, the weight of the hydraulic tank can approach400 kg (881 lb) . - Remove two bolts (14) and the washers that secure the accumulator (15) to the hydraulic tank. Move the accumulator aside.
- Remove three bolts (16) and the washers from the chassis.

Illustration 6 g00447330 - Raise the hydraulic tank from the chassis until reaching a height of
50 mm (2 inch) . Rotate the hydraulic tank counterclockwise until reaching approximately one quarter turn. - Slowly lift the hydraulic tank from the machine. As the hydraulic tank is being removed, ensure that hoses, lines or wires are not attached to the hydraulic tank.
Note: The base of the hydraulic tank is domed. Use the appropriate blocking or a suitable stand to stabilize the tank.
