Fuel Filter (Secondary) and Fuel Filter Base - Remove and Install

Start By:

  1. Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, all hoses and all tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

  1. Open the engine hood.

  1. Place a suitable container under the machine. Open drain valves (1) .

  1. Use Tooling (A) to remove secondary filter elements (2) and (3) .

  1. Disconnect three tube assemblies (4) .

  1. Remove bolts (5) and secondary fuel filter base (6) .

  1. Remove check valve assembly (7) .

  1. Remove O-ring seals (8) and backup ring (9) from check valve assembly (7) .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install O-ring seals (8) and backup ring (9) on check valve assembly (7) .

  1. Install check valve assembly (7). The torque for check valve assembly (7) is 50 ± 4 N·m (37 ± 3 lb ft).

  1. Install secondary fuel filter base (6) and bolts (5) .

  1. Connect three tube assemblies (4) .

  1. Install secondary filter elements (3) and (2). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7018 for the correct procedure.

  1. Close drain valves (1) .

  1. Prime the fuel system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7018 for the correct procedure.

End By: Separate the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
